Last night I tried to get over to Seattle and buy Kimberly her birthday present, but the store I need to go to closed an hour earlier than I expected so I drove almost an hour for nothing. This morning Kimberly opened at work and as soon as she left I made a mad dash through the house to get Evan and myself ready to go.

We made it to Pacific Place in record time, and we were in and out of the Coach store in less than 10 minutes before we were back on the road. Yep… I splurged and bought her exactly what she wanted, a brand new Coach Hamptons Hobo purse in Silver/Black. Sure they’re spendy, but she loves them so much and her last one lasted about ten years, so it’s actually not a bad price.

Anyhow, Evan and I are just passing Tullys Coffee on I-5 when Kimberly calls. Keep in mind: she doesn’t know where I am or what I am doing, so I have to play it cool. It’s just about Noon, and our normal routine is that I call her from the road on my cell around this time. When she calls me she says “Where are you now? Are you just going to drop off Evan?”. I panic for what seems to be about 5 minutes but what is actually about 1.5 seconds and say, cool as a cucumber, “Yeah, I’m on the road right now.”. Perfect… it’s the truth, because I was on the road, and I didn’t have to give anything away. Then a quick segue into “So hows your day so far?” like usual and my plan goes off without a hitch.

Of course, I can’t buy a present without giving it right away, so I gave it to her before we went to bed. She cried tears of joy and I felt like a super-husband. All of the running around was well worth it to see the look on her face when she saw the Coach bag wrapped up.
