Am I the only one who thinks that Dr. Phil is a moron? Sometimes I hear him dole out some decent advice, but most of it seems to be common sense with a hint of jackass in it. I have yet to find anyone who doesn’t like him (if they know who he is in the first place).
I’ve decided to lump him in the same boat I put Rush Limbaugh and Judge Judy:
The S.S. Why The Hell Are They So Popular

I just off of a phone call with one of my banks. They called me to ask if I signed up for a membership to Monster.com and I told them no since, well, I hadn’t signed up. They said OK and they had declined the charge.
I started going over some recent statements and told them that I saw another charge on my card that wasn’t me (to some celebrity gossip site). After a little investigation it turns out that some asshat got a copy of my credit card number and was charging stuff up on it. What a bastard. Now the card has been canceled and a new one is on its way.
This is the second time this has happened to me. I wonder if how they got the card numbers are related? Oh well… all of that sucks, but at least my bank was proactive about tracking odd-looking purchases and called me to see what was going on.

I just bought a KVM switch (Keyboard Video Monitor) online from Belkin last night. That and 3 sets of cables for it ran me close to $300. But that’s not what I want to talk about. I want to talk about the level of help at so-called technology/electronics stores.
I called up no less than 6 different companies in my local area: “Best Buy“, “Circuit City“, “Staples“, “Office Depot“, and a few local computer shops. During each and every call I had to be transferred to at least two, and in one case four different employees, each trying to figure out not only what a KVM switch is (even their “computer experts”), but also to tell me after much deliberation and apparently continued confusion on their part(s), that they do not have any.
Is it too much to ask that an employee know what different parts and supplies their employer sells? Is it too much to ask that at least some semblance of competance in an employee is available to potential customers? I can almost understand not knowing what a KVM switch is; but in each instance they got it confused with a network switch, and the guy on the phone from Circuit City actually argued with me that what I wanted was a network switch. No it isn’t…
The only store to even stock a KVM switch in any way, shape, or form, was Best Buy; and that was only a 2-port. They suggested I try using their website to order it and get it shipped to the store but a) they didn’t stock any 4-port versions and b) why would I get it shipped to the store and not my house?

Yes… he is mowing my lawn. I have not asked him to do this, I have not hinted at it, nor is our grass so long that it should make someone decide to cut it just so their own property value won’t go down. He’s just mowing it. Maybe it’s just me, but that’s kinda weird. Not “sideshow” weird, but more like “what the…” weird. And this isn’t the first time he’s done it either. In fact, the day we move in he mowed it. I thought it was a “welcome to the neighborhood” gesture, but apparently he’s serious about this. I’d venture a guess that he’s mowed my lawn at least a dozen times in the last ~6 months.
At first it made me a little cranky. I mean, it’s my lawn, not his, and I’ll mow it when I’m damned good and ready. But after much consideration and advice from others about it, I have come to terms with the fact that I have a neighbor who likes to see fresh-cut grass and there’s preciousl little I should do about it. And lets face it; I don’t really like mowing anyhow…
I just hope he rakes it all up, too.

So we had about 35-40 total kids who came to our door for Halloween. And we still have about a bag and a half of candy left. But here’s my biggest gripe of the night: kids these days have zero imagination! I’d say at least half of them were dressed up as the killer from “Scream“, and that’s so 1996.
I’d say that there were about a half dozen kids who weren’t even really dressed up at all. Only a handful of them had any interesting and/or notable costumes. The interesting thing was that of all the parents who came along with the kids (which there were plenty, thank goodness); over half of them were dressed up in some sort of costume. In fact, some of the parents had better costumes than the kids. I remember spending days, sometimes weeks, getting ready for Halloween. Was I the only one?
