The movie High Fidelity is a great film about love and relationships that brilliantly uses music as a backdrop for both. It also introduced me to The Beta Band with John Cusack’s line: “I will now sell 5 copies of the 3 EP’s by the Beta Band”. That tiny clip from the film definitely made me want to buy a copy.

It’s been an interesting week for me, personally. I’ve been trying to wrap my head around some recent events that have been a long time coming. I can’t really go into detail, but suffice to say that it feels good to do and say the right thing, even if it’s many years late.

There have been a few bittersweet conversations, some long over-due apologies, a little closure, and maybe, just maybe… a new beginning. I have no idea what to make of all of this yet, and even though I have been thinking about it for many years the reality of it is much more intense than I had imagined.

They say that time and tide change for no man, but every now and again the currents change just enough for you to paddle through the endlessly changing waves of life and come out into the clear, open ocean. And you’re a little better for it. Today I feel that way.

Thank you, R, for your kind words, your understanding, and much more.

This is what happens when you give me a mirror, a digital camera, and some spare time. For some reason I just love shots like these (ones with the lens over one of my eyes):

The Charlatans UK, along with other bands like Inspiral Carpets (see the video for their song “Caravan” for a sample), were one of several early-90’s bands that were part of a psychedelic (-influenced) revival of sorts. I’m normally not into psychedelic music, but Charlatans UK captured my attention.

Here’s one of their more popular songs, “The Only One I Know”. I heard it a lot when I lived in Connecticut, and hearing this song always reminds me of my time in New England.

In a previous post I wrote that I was going to update this site with archived posts from my old website, among other sources. Now after several weeks of re-building sites in Movable Type and Wordpress, extracting pertinent posts, and updating many outdated links, I am finally finished.

Wow, that was a big job.

At this point all I have left it to take my offline notes, journals, etc. and put them online. And that’s going to be a heck of a task, because at least with the online posts I was able to automate some of the updates. With the offline resources I’m going to have to do it all manually.

I’ve been blogging for over 6 years and in updating the old posts I can see a lot of changes in my life, and not the obvious ones like kids and houses. I see a change in my outlook on life. It’s a very positive change, and that’s a good thing. This past year I’ve done much more offline writing than online, especially since I was trying to deal with combining several websites into one: this one. Hopefully in the next few weeks I’ll get them all added to the blog.

If you play World of Warcraft like I do, you know that you’re not supposed to be able to fly inside the Scryer bank, or any bank for that matter, in Shattrath; but through a bug, luck, or lag I was able to do just that for a few minutes today with my undead rogue Gorysh. I finally hopped off my mount, stood on a rafter, and took a screenshot:

Just try to get 3 young boys to all look in the same direction and smile, with eyes open, at the same time. It’s not easy.

Found this on FunnyOrDie.com, Will Ferrell’s online comedy site. It’s simply hilarious.

It took most of us by surprise, but it was a pleasant surprise. We ended up with close to 4″ of powdery fun for about a day before the rain came and washed it all away. And washed away a lot more, too. There was so much precipitation between the rain and the snow that some places flooded, drains were overflowing, and water had pretty much no where to go.

But while the snow was around, it sure was pretty.

Our house blanketed in the first snow of the year.
