My wonderful mother bought me an acoustic guitar today, for which I am very grateful. I’ve been thinking about buying one myself, and thought that I might try to ask Santa for one at Christmas, but apparently she’s also been thinking about getting some musical instruments for Evan to be exposed to and she figured that if he saw me play, then he might get interested in music.

Of course, he is already interested in music, and he knows the difference between normal/everyday sounds and music. He even loves to dance to it and/or sing as well. He’s been playing with my drum sticks and practice pad for a while now, but this is the first instrument he’s seen up close and personal, and he’s getting a real kick out of it.

Anyhow, I’m super-stoked about this and can’t wait to get more proficient at it.

I’ve had my left ear pierced since 1992, and for the last year or so I’ve wanted to get my right ear pierced as well. “Why?” is the question most people ask, and I think that question is odd so my normal answer is “Why not?”. The real reason why is because I’m tired of being asymmetrical… I want both sides done, and that’s probably the main reason. So there.

And keeping with the symmetry theme, I have a 6 gauge in my ear right now, and I had a pair of 8ga. double flare eyelets, so I figured I’d go for that. A lot of places will only pierce 10ga. max, but I found a really nice place in Poulsbo called Silver City Tattoo and got the 8ga. piercing there. The guy who did it was super-nice, very informative, and did a great job. I’m even thinking about getting my next tattoo there, as well.

Today Kimberly, Evan, and I went to the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle with my wonderful sister-in-law Angela. It was a great time, and after Evan got over his Cheez-It® snack fascination (and subsequent orangey-hands) he started to get into seeing all of the animals. It was really cool to see him react to the animals and try to mimic their sounds. He especially liked to see the elephants, orangutans, and (of all things) turtles.

In other Evan-related news, I’ve noticed that Evan can now count to 10; pretty amazing for child who is not even 2 years old yet. We’ve been working with him on it for a while, and I when I asked him to count for me at the zoo he counted right up to ten without any help.
