A friend of mine found this and sent it to me:

Where am I going? And why am I in this hand basket?

I laughed for a good 5 minutes when I read that quote.

An old friend from high school recently found me on some alumni website and emailed me. That was pretty interesting. I generally don’t get a chance to keep in touch with anyone from High School or old shipmates from the Navy. It’s a little sad, but in a way makes sense… we’ve all grown up, grown apart, and moved on with life as we all know it, and those friends are from a different time in your life. Anyhow, it was nice to hear from him and I hope we stay in touch.

Speaking of the old days, I was actually inspired about a year ago or so to contact a friend from Junior High, Tania (formerly DiCanio). She was one of my best friends in Junior High and I was feeling nostalgic at the time so I looked her up, found her parents number in Annapolis (loved her parents), and called them so I could get her number. We talked once or twice, but not much more than that. I do get CCed by her parents every now and again in emails, but that’s about it. Which is too bad, because she was a really good friend and we had a lot of fun (read: caused trouble) together.

It’s funny how the people around you can come in and out of your life so fast, isn’t it?

I’ve been trying to get Evan to play the drums. I know, I know… he’s only (almost) 14 months old, but hey: it’s never too early to start teaching our children music appreciation, right?

I’ve had this fairly decent Remo tunable drumpad for a while, and I just put it on the ground in my home office and put some drumsticks there and see what he does. At first, he could care less, but soon I started playing some Metallica (specifically the song “Fuel”) and he started getting into the song. So I pick up the sticks and start playing a really simple beat on the drumpad along with the music. For the first few minutes he’s just watching and watching, but then he walks right up and wants one of the sticks, so I go ahead and give it to him. The next thing I know he’s trying to hit the drumpad with the stick!

Of course, since this is Metallica, I have to get him to work in his “rock and roll” face, and he’s got it down pretty well. When I start playing some loud music or ask him to show me his rock and roll face he’ll start waving his hands in the air, get a pseudo-cranky face on, and repeat “Roo Roo Roo” over and over for about 5-10 seconds! He’s awesome!

I plan on starting him on one of my old rudiment books as soon as he’ll stop trying to eat the pages. :)

Where the hell did 2002 go? I guess with Evan, work, and trying to find time to spend with my growing family, everything else just sort of blazed on by. Remember when you were little and days seemed to last forever? Now it seems like a day is only about 10 hours.

Anyhow, I take personal pleasure by being able to hold off ruining the New Year for Kimberly by going 26 minutes into it before I said something she would deem “inappropriate”; and it was the phrase “Camel Toe”. If you don’t know what it means, don’t ask… and also don’t ask the context, as I won’t tell. Suffice to say that I got one of Kimberly’s world famous eye rolls for it.
